About hobbies

When I ask some people what they are into, I usually see the expression of hesitation in their eyes. They just don’t know what is considered to be a hobby and I can perfectly understand them as I also have difficulty answering this question. The majority of us are nine-to-five white-collar workers whose only concerns are how to make a better progress at work, get a higher paycheck, become a better version of ourselves and so on and so forth.

I guess, our perception of hobbies is a far cry from what it is originally meant to be. When we go in for something we love doing, we try to make it our main occupation. If a person finds a knack for cooking, he or she would probably attend several courses, gather some target audience, make up a profile on Instagram and finally run a business. If a person gets crazy about physical activity and spends hours in the gym, he or she will grab the attention from friends or acquaintances who want to reach the same results and turn a hobby into something that brings an income. I have a feeling that people who are thick-skinned and aren’t afraid of facing challenges go for their interests and make good money performing their craft.

Those of us who don’t make money on hobbies will probably say that they do some activities in their free time like reading books, watching movies, doing sports, cross-stitching etc. They might be experienced in what they create or do but they would treat the activities as something to kill time with not as a hobby.
